Sit & Go Tournaments

We all dream on winning a World Series Of Poker WSOP Main Event or a several thousand dollar prize event, and while they are good chances of getting good money, the time spent and the consistency of your play might be too much. Sit and go’s (SnG’s) are the perfect opportunity to win big at a low pace and practice your poker. Even it is a good alternative to cash tables when your bankroll isn’t the best.

SnG’s are single table tournaments that run with a fix amount of players, unlike the normal tournaments that normally start at a certain time, SnG’s start once the required amount of players are registered. Even though we have seen multi table SnG’s the standard are single tables.

Advantages: Whilst they have lower price pools than multi table schedule tournaments, they represent a value as they are normally fast, fun and easy. You don’t have to spend hours in front of the screen to win a couple bucks, they are normally an hour long and you can triple or quadruple your winnings in that time. Another advantage is the chip factor; they are amazing alternatives to cash games when you have low bankrolls since all players normally start with the same amount of chips, taking out the bully style from the equation. They can also be a way to get into bigger tournaments as they are also regularly used by poker sites to fill the big tournaments at a significant lower cost. And since the cost for you is very low, you can be more aggressive as it is not your bankroll on the line when you play from a qualified satellite than directly from your money. Another up side on the tournaments is the fact that they regenerate automatically, you will see another tournament of the same value open as soon as the one you are playing is over or started playing, depending on the room, this allows you to play repeatedly for a low price.

Disadvantages: Low prices make the tournaments a little too volatile; players are far more aggressive than in big tournaments but skill is a bigger factor. They are normally very fast moving tournaments so they require your full attention, but if you are in this to win some money you should be focused at all times.

Strategy: Winning at SnG’s can be very simple, be tight for the first 3 levels, wait for the gamblers and bluffers to get out of the tourney. Call killer hands and don’t over risk your chip balance. As you go further into the tournament start to loosen up, be a bit aggressive for a couple of levels and then tight when the last 3 are left. Wait for the 2nd place to get out, play just killer hands again and try to get to the heads up. Here be as aggressive as you can, but smartly. Don’t throw just chips but pump the pots; this will make you win some money you will take hours getting at cash games or big tourneys.
